Leopards Fall to Regals on Day Two of SCIAC Championships

Tournament webpage

The University of La Verne women's water polo squad faced off against SCIAC foe Cal Lutheran at the 2013 SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships.  A competitive battle would ultimately go to the Regals in an 8-6 verdict.

The Regals would jump to a 2-0 lead early in the first but Ryanne Bible would keep La Verne close with her goal just before the end of the quarter.  However, the Leopards would delay their scoring once again to the latter part of the quarter allowing Cal Lutheran to take a 4-2 lead into the half.  Maddie Lovrensky's goal at the 1:59 would shrink the deficit just before the intermission.

An exciting third frame would see both squads answer each other's goals with La Verne coming within two.  Lovrensky and sisters Stephanie and Nicole Tuning would lead the Leopard push toward the goal with a trio of goals.  Leopard goalkeeper Lauren Shepard also did her part in keeping her squad close with four stops in the third quarter alone.  Shepard captured 13 saves on the day.

The fourth quarter would start with the Leopards down by just one at 6-5 but the Regals would scatter of pair of goals to answer Stephanie Tuning's goal that brought her squad within one.  The Regals would hold off the late La Verne attack to give the Leopards their second loss of the tournament.

La Verne will conclude action at the SCIAC Championships by taking on Whittier in the seventh place matchup on Sunday in a 10:00 am start.
