The University of La Verne women's water polo squad took on Occidental College in SCIAC action Saturday morning at the La Verne Aquatics Center. The Tiger defense held the Leopards in check much of the contest resulting in a 4-2 Oxy victory.
Saturday's contest also marked Senior Day, as Leopard seniors Katie Lacek, Alex Gudeneau and Lauren Shepard were honored prior to the contest.
The clash between the Tigers and Leopards played more like a chess match as both squads combined for a total of only six goals in the match. The match was highlighted by stifling defense on both ends including twelve saves by La Verne senior Lauren Shepard. Timing paid off for Occidental who scattered four goals in the first three frames to hang on and hold the lead.
La Verne would get on the board in the second quarter when Ryanne Bible found the back of the net. Tuning would also tack on a goal in the third but the Leopard offense would come to a stand still resulting in a 4-2 defeat.
La Verne is now 11-20 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Leopards will play in their last SCIAC contest at home on Wednesday, April 17 against Cal Lutheran beginning at 5 pm.
