Water Polo Suffers Road Setback Against Redlands

The University of La Verne women's water polo squad would drop a 13-7 decision to the University of Redlands in SCIAC action Friday night at the Thompson Aquatic Center.

The Leopard offense would score five goals in the final frame but would be unable to overcome the Redlands lead.

The Bulldogs would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead while holding La Verne scoreless in the first quarter.  La Verne would later get on the board in the second quarter as Allison Gunby and Alexis Zamora posted the Leopards first two goals of the night.  The Leopard offense would stall while allowing the Bulldogs to build an 11-2 lead through the third quarter.

The La Verne offense began to click late in the match, scoring three times with under three minutes to play in the match.  Ryanne Bible ignited the Leopard attempt at a comeback with her goal at the 6:04 mark while Maddie Lovrensky and Ryanne Bible tacked on goals of their own for La Verne.  Catie Tuning would close the gap further with her pair of consecutive goals with under a minute left in the contest.

Tuning's goals would reduce the Redlands lead to six but time would expire to end the Leopard comeback.

With the defeat La Verne is now 9-19 overall and 0-5 in SCIAC competition.  La Verne takes on Caltech and Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday beginning with the conference clash against the Beavers at 11:00 am followed by the road contest against the Division II Coyotes at 3:30 pm.
