LA VERNE – The University of La Verne women's water polo outscored Redlands 5-4 in the second half, but fell just short of completing the completing the comeback and lost, 11-8, on Saturday at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
La Verne was solid defensively and was within striking distance all game, but could not quite find enough goals to put them over the top.
La Verne got scoring from up and down its roster with six players getting on the board. Maddie Lovrensky and Melanie Consiglio led the way for La Verne with two goals apiece.
Lora Marquez-Salgado, Sarah Jefferis, Amber Tardif and Justine Mojarro had one each.
Deandra Van Houten led all scorers in the game with three goals.
Before the game, La Verne celebrated the career of its lone senior, Samary Morales. Morales got the start in the cage and made five saves.
La Verne head to the SCIAC Championship Tournament next week, hosted by Whittier.
