Men's Soccer falls to Chapman, 1-0

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's soccer team had some chances late but couldn't convert, falling to the Chapman Panthers Wednesday night at Ortmayer Stadium.

The Panthers put pressure on La Verne early in the game, dishing out nine shots in the opening period. But Josh Ramirez was his usual self in front of the net, frustrating Chapman and recording three saves in the half. Ramirez would finish the game with five saves.

The Leopards retained more possession in the second half in what developed into a physical match-up. La Verne caught a break early on in the period when a shot by Nick Gilida hit the post just a minute into the second half. Ten minutes later the Panthers gave the Leopards another scare, this time bouncing a shot off the crossbar.

La Verne's best chance of the night came in the 68th minute. Jack Kolodge kicked a hard shot that bounced off the post to Auden Foxe. Foxe loaded up for another shot but missed high keeping the game even.

Chapman finally broke through in the 78th minute off a goal by Kannon Khun that proved to be the difference maker.

Season Impact: The Leopards drop to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play. Chapman improves to 1-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Next Game: The Leopards head east this Saturday to take on Redlands at 7 p.m.
