Leopard Track & Field Team Finishes 2-1 At SCIAC #3

CLAREMONT/AZUSA, CA - The men's track & field team concluded their dual meet season with SCIAC #3 at CMS on Saturday.  The Leos finished 2-1 on the day.  They beat Whittier 66-37 and Caltech 66-53 while falling to host CMS 134-26.

Several Leopards finished second overall in their events including the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Ivan Estrada, Dante Carter, Jayden Figueroa and Zachary Reid, the 4 x 400 relay team of Kenneth Davis, Estrada, Figueroa and Hunter Bond, Elijah Martinez in the high jump, Brandon Pedroza in the discus throw and Michael Kenfield in the javelin throw.  Personal bests were recorded by four Leos in the 1500 meters with all the times recorded manually.  Nicolas Saenz broke 4:00 for the first time with a time of 3:59.0.  He moved up to #5 in school history.  Also recording PBs were Mateo Cole (4:07.2), Andres Flores-Marquez (4:15.0) and Thomas Taniguchi (4:18.4).  Taniguchi also recorded a seasonal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.30.  Seasonal bests were recorded by Martinez in the high jump (5-3.25), Pedroza in the discus throw (133-4) and Kenfield in both the discus (98-9) and javelin (137-10) throws.

Five athletes also competed on the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa on Saturday.  Tyler Thomas ran a personal best of 21.49 in the 200 meters and moved up to #5 in school history.  Jared Albaugh and Jose Reyes both ran personal bests in the same heat of the 1500 meters.  Both broke the magical 4:00 barrier for the first time with Albaugh running 3:58.41 and Reyes running 3:59.48.  They moved up to #4 and #7 respectively in school history.  Hurdlers Reid and Joshua Collier doubled back in their signature events on Saturday after competing at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.  Reid ran 14.91 and Collier ran 54.60.  They were 0.14 and 0.10 respectively off their season bests.

The team will return on action on April 29-30 when they host the SCIAC Championships.
