Berhe Sets SCIAC And La Verne Record At NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, NY - TK Berhe broke the SCIAC and La Verne record in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday evening.  His time of 29:39.55 broke the year-old SCIAC record of 29:42.33 and his own previous La Verne record of 29:52.97.  Berhe, who was seeded 19th of 22 entrants in the race, finished 14th overall in the deepest 10,000 in Championship history.  His time would have finished third or better in each of the 48 prior Championships.  Two runners broke away from the field at the beginning of the race and Berhe ran in the large chase pack for the majority of the race.  He moved up to as high as 11th with 1200 meters remaining.

Joshua Collier also competed on Thursday in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles.  Collier, who was seeded 14th in the 22 person field, initially finished 17th with a time of 54.50, but ended up being disqualified for a trail leg violation.

Zachary Reid will compete tomorrow in the 110 meter high hurdles.  The event is scheduled for 2:00 PST and Reid is running in the second of three heats.
