San Diego, CA - The University of La Verne women's track and field teams competed in various meets across Southern California over the weekend. The Leopards competed at San Marcos and Point Loma in different meets on Friday evening and Saturday.
There were many high-quality performances for the Leopards at the meets. Friday evening's meet provided perfect conditions for the runners to excel.
The Leopards had two performers that secured personal bests; in the 5000m was Madison Bravo, 19:25.97, and Andrea Camacho, 19:52.93.
Saturday the Leopards competed at Point Loma in various events with many outstanding performances on both the track and the field.
Sophomore Mira Juncaj had a seasonal best in the 100m Hurdles, which also placed her #14 on the NCAA DIII performance list. The 4x100m relay team of Jazzlyn Johnson, Tamia Brown, Naomi Jackson and Dawson Bell also set seasonal and personal best. Dawson Bell also ran the 100m in an impressive 12.87, after a few years away from the track. Not to be outdone were solid efforts by Alyssa Galaviz in the Hammer Throw, Marlene Miller in the 200m, Kelly Sanchez in both the 100m and 200m, and Devin Spreeman in the Pole Vault and 200m.
With a total of 21 personal best or seasonal bests, the Leo's find themselves in a good position moving forward in both SCIAC competition and NCAA DIII qualifying positions.
The Leo's return to action next Saturday at SCIAC #2, at Redlands. The Leopards will be competing against Redlands, Whittier and Cal Lutheran.
