LA VERNE, Calif. — Jassmine Kezman and Jasmine Bustamante each scored a hat-trick, but the University of La Verne women's water polo team couldn't slow down the visiting Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash, falling at Las Flores Park 12-8.

Bustamante and Kezman have both had a hot start to the season with each of the totaling 19 goals.

Goalie Shelby Garcia finished the game with four saves, three steals, and an assist.

Emily Mena and Victoria Mezack each added two steals.

Ashley Bennet gave the Leopards the opening lead of the game, scoring just over two minutes into the match. But the Red Flash responded with a 3-0 run to take the lead for good.

La Verne made a push in the closing minutes of the game with Bustamante beating the goalie twice to cap off a three-goal period for the Leopards, but that was as close as they would get.

Saint Francis was led by Marialena Seletopoulou's five goals.

Season Impact: The Leopards move to 1-6 overall. The Red Flash improve to 10-3.

Next Game: La Verne returns to SCIAC play on Wednesday when they host the Whittier College Poets at 4 p.m.
