LA VERNE, Calif. — Jassmine Kezman and Emily Mena each finished the day with eight goals and the University of La Verne women's water polo team rolled on their way to wins over Macalester and Caltech Thursday at Las Flores Park.

Kezman currently leads the SCIAC with 38 goals and 46 points. Jasmine Bustamante ranks second in the conference in goals with 29.

Season Impact: With the wins, the Leopards improve to 4-8 overall this season and 2-3 in SCIAC play.

Game One: La Verne 14, Macalester 9

Shelby Garcia was dominant in the goal and Bustamante and Kezman each found the back of the net four times on their way to leading the Leopards to a nonconference win over the previously undefeated Scots.

Garcia allowed just two goals in one half work on her way to earning the win in the cage. The goalie totaled eight saves and grabbed two steals.

After taking a 3-2 lead after the opening eight minutes, the Leopards rolled in the second quarter outscoring the Scots 6-0 in the period led by a pair of goals by Mena and Kezman.

Mena finished the game with three goals. 

Macalester made a push in the fourth quarter, finding the back of the net six times in the period. But La Verne answered with five goals of their own to run away with the game. 

Victoria Mezack scored twice in the game and recorded three steals. Kezman added three steals of her own. Yuri Ujifusa dished out two assists and scored once for the Leopards.

Samantha Murillo stepped the cage in the third quarter grabbing four saves. Delaney Moller added two saves in the final eight minutes.

Game Two: La Verne 15, Caltech 5

La Verne jumped out to a big first half lead, scoring eight goals in the second quarter and the game was never in question as the Leopards picked up their second SCIAC win of the season.

Mena led the Leopards offensively scoring a game-high five goals. Not far behind was Kezman who netted four goals. 

Mezack earned her first hat trick of the season to go with a pair of assists and steals.

Susana Curiel and Amber Ventura Espinoza each scored once.

Moller finished the game with six saves.
