Leopards close out 2018 season against Cal Lutheran

LA VERNE, Calif. — Jassmine Kezman and Jasmine Bustamante each scored twice but the University of La Verne women's water polo team fell to second place Cal Lutheran 11-6 in their season finale Wednesday afternoon at Las Flores Park.

The Leopards end the 2018 season in head coach Pat Beemer's first season at the helm 8-18 overall and 5-9 in conference play. La Verne finished seventh in the conference standings.

Kezman had a breakout year for the Leopards. The freshman ends the season ranked first in both goals (69) and points (79) in the SCIAC.

Senior Jasmine Bustamante capped off her Leopard career in exciting fashion, ending the year with a career-high 50 goals, ranking fourth in the conference. 

Junior Victoria Mezack also had a standout out year, finishing tied for second in the SCIAC with 29 assists. 

The Regals jumped out to an early 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, but La Verne's defense stepped up in the next period allowing just one goal. Kezman netted a shot to cut the deficit to two heading into the break.

Cal Lutheran surged in the third, scoring three times to extend their lead. The two squads traded four goals in the fourth quarter to put the final at 11-6.

Shelby Garcia finished with five saves.

The Leopards graduate seniors Susana Curiel, Delaney Moller, and Bustamante.
