Long Beach, CA - The University of La Verne women's water polo team competed in the Long Beach invite at Long Beach State to open their 2023 campaign.

The Leopards opened their season by taking on Cal State Northridge and Cal Baptist University. In the day's first matchup, La Verne fell to CSUN by a score of 17-5. The Matadors came in strong, displaying their national ranking. La Verne struggled to find any rhythm offensively; however, Jassmine Kezmin led the Leopards with three goals. Katrina Hitchcock had three saves for the match.

The Leopards came out strong against Cal Baptist. La Verne was tied at halftime, showing its strength against the Lancers. However, the Leopards fell short, getting outscored in the second half 13-4. Maddie Grove led the Leopards with three goals. Kate Carlyle was a force having herself six saves for the second matchup for La Verne. The Leopards fell to the Lancers by the final score of 19-11.

The next matchup for La Verne will be against Cal Baptist, and Cal State East Bay at the Aggies Invite at UC Davis at 3:50 and 6:10 P.M.
