Leos Top Beavers To Snap Losing Skid

The University of La Verne snapped its five-game losing streak with a 19-2 win in seven innings over the California Institute of Technology Friday in Pasadena. 

The Leopards tallied seven runs in the first inning, added a run in the second, and plated six more in the third to take a 14-0 lead.  La Verne closed out with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The trio of Victor Peinado, Mike Surina and Kevin Ibarra each collected three hits on the day, combining for nine runs and eight runs batted in. 

Peinado went 3-4 with a triple along with 4 RBI.   Both Surina and Ibarra went 3-5 with 2 RBI.  Surina posted a pair of triples and scored 4 runs on the day.  Joe Buckley and Jon-Michael Hattabaugh each collected 3 RBI in the win.

Mark Larini pitched five innings, yielding a run on three hits to pick up the victory. 

La Verne (14-13, 8-8 SCIAC) resumes its series against the Beavers with a doubleheader Saturday at Ben Hines Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 am.
