Leopards Conclude Season With Weekend Split

The University of La Verne completed its 2010 season with a split of two conference game on the final weekend of SCIAC action by defeating Caltech 11-1 on the road in seven innings on Friday before dropping a 15-7 decision to Cal Lutheran at home Saturday.

In Pasadena, the Leopards topped the Beavers behind a strong pitching outing from Mark Larini, who recorded the win.  Jon-Michael Hattabaugh homered and drove in 3 runs while Mike Surina went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

Saturday marked the final home appearance of nine Leopard seniors.  That group included Hattabaugh, Surina, Tim Jolly, Victor Peinado, Kevin Ibarra, David Contreras, Mike Belcher, Dane Delfs and Austin Braunwalder.

The Kingsmen (27-13, 20-8 SCIAC) opened a 10-2 lead on the Leopards after three innings and held on to earn victory.  The Leopards tallied 13 hits against CLU, including a pair of homers from Peinado.  He finished the game 4-5 at the plate with 4 RBI.

The Leopards conclude the 2010 campaign with a 22-18 overall record.  The Leos tied for fourth in the SCIAC standings with a 16-12 league mark.
