La Verne, California - The University of La Verne Leopards baseball team took the diamond this past weekend for games against Chapman University and Whittier College at Ben Hines Baseball Field. Taking on Chapman University on Saturday, the Leopards defeated Chapman University 6-1. The Leopards shut out Chapman through the first eight innings scoring six runs. Short stop Anthony Salcedo scored four runs for the Leopards while second baseman Chase Siffert and right fielder Brandon Shiota both had two RBI's in the game. Pitcher Bennett Vogel pitched five innings for the Leopards, giving up only three hits while striking out four batters. Sunday's game against Whittier College proved to be a route for the Leopards. The Leopards led after the first inning as short stop Anthony Salcedo scored the Leopards' only run. The next eight innings would be no contest, as the Leopards would score twenty more runs in the game, with four runs scored in both the second and third inning and seven runs scored in the fourth inning. Infielder Logan Reese scored four runs, while third baseman Cameron Slessor contributed three runs on the day. Pitcher Austin Klopfenstein pitched three innings for the Leopards, striking out five batters and Sean Holt pitched four-innings, striking out four batters. The final result was a shut out as the University of La Verne defeated Whittier College 21-0. The victory improved the Leopards record to 3-1 on the season.
