La Verne Hosts Occidental College In Double Header Action

La Verne, California - The University of La Verne baseball team faced off against the Occidental College Tigers in doubleheader action at home less than twenty-four hours after defeating the Tigers at Occidental. Carrying the momentum from Friday's victory into the first game of the day, the Leopards continued their dominance with an amazing performance on the mound from junior pitcher Gerald Terry. Terry, a LA Verne, California native, controlled the game from the mound as he pitched eight innings, finishing with fourteen strikeouts on the day, while also giving up zero runs. Center fielder Drew Reddick had two hits on the day along with two RBIs. Second baseman Chase Siffert had one hit on the day and had two RBIs as well. Malachi Francois and Cole McCollum each scored two runs in the game, as the Leopards would win the first game by a final score of 8-0.

The Leopards started off the second game of the day with a continuance of great play. Through the first four innings of play, the Tigers were scoreless while the Leopards put seven runs on the board. Tanner Siffert and Malachi Francois each singled in the first inning, leading to runs scored by Chase Siffert, Tanner Siffert, and Cameron Slessor. Tanner Siffert tripled in the second inning as Drew Reddick and Cameron Slessor would each score for the LEopards, giving them a 5-0 lead. Brandon Shiota doubled to right-centerfield in the fourth inning, leading to runs scored by Cameron Slessor and Tanner Siffert, giving the LEopards a lead of 7-0 as the fifth inning of play began. The fifth inning would see a rally from Occidental College as they would score nine runs in the inning. Over the next four innings, the Leopards would find themselves unable to connect with the ball to score and they would fall to the Tigers by a final score of 12-7. The loss marked LA Verne's first loss in SCIAC play.

The Leopards return to the diamond Friday, April 1st when they host Caltech. The game starts at 3:00 pm.
