La Verne Sweeps CalTech

Pasadena, CA: The University of La Verne Leopards swept a doubleheader against the Caltech Beavers 12-0 and 13-2. 

Game One 

The Leopards offense was on full display right from the first inning as they scored 3 runs in the first. Brandon Shiota knocked in two runs and Christian Killian doubled in Shiota to give La Verne a 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Tanner Siffert singled in Anthony Salcedo and Drew Reddick to take a commanding 5-0 lead. In the third inning, Salcedo singled in Killian with an infield base hit to give La Verne a 6-0 lead. Malachi Francois doubled home Shiota making it 7-0 La Verne. The Leopards offense tacked on three more runs in the 5th inning and two more runs in the 7th inning capped off by a Logan Reese RBI single to make it 12-0. Gerald Terry pitched 6 shutout innings while striking out 8 batters en route to his third win of the season. Jacob Barriga followed Terry with a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. 

Game Two 

The Leopards offense had more fireworks in game two right off the bat as Tanner Siffert knocked home Anthony Salcedo and Brandon Shiota hit a solo home run to left field, giving La Verne a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Shiota hit a two-run homer in the 3rd inning to give La Verne a 4-1 lead. Logan Reese doubled in two runs in the 5th inning to take a 6-1 lead. In the 6th, Drew Reddick drove in Cameron Slessor to make it 7-2. The Leopards burst for 6 runs in the 7th inning and won by a final score of 13-2. 

Offensive Explosion/Pinpoint Pitching

The Leopards offense put up 25 runs on 29 hits in the doubleheader. La Verne compiled 10 extra-base hits including a pair of home runs. La Verne pitching allowed only two runs over 14 innings of work while striking out 14 batters. 

Standouts

Brandon Shiota went 6-8 at the plate, hitting two home runs, driving in 8 runs, and scoring 5 runs. Logan Reese collected 4 hits and drove in 3 runs. Chase Siffert went 4-9 and scored four runs. Cameron Slessor went 4-7, scoring 3 runs, and driving in two. Gerald Terry improved to 3-0 on the season after six scoreless innings of work. 

Next Up

The University of La Verne Leopards are now 19-4-1 on the season and remain in first place in SCIAC with an 11-1 record in conference play. La Verne will next hit the road on Friday as they take on Cal Lutheran at 3:00 PM.
