Leopards Outpaced by First Place Sagehens

CLAREMONT, CA — The Leopards' bench scored 28 points and the University of La Verne men's basketball team made shot 44 percent from three-point range. But, it wasn't enough to come back and defeat first-pace Pomona-Pitzer, falling to the Sagehens 109-83. 

Trevor Andresen started the game hot, landing his first three-point attempt of the night. Andresen finished with 11 points with three three-pointers, two blocks, two assists, and two rebounds.

Jarid Taylor finished with his best scoring performance of the season. The senior splashed in 20 points off of a 9-12 shooting and added two assists and three rebounds, one defensively. Taylor set his previous season-high mark at 19 points in a 68-55 win over Cal Lutheran.

Sinai Enoch and Jordan Allen led the Leos in assists. Allen tossed five assists and Enoch passed six assists with most of them coming in the second half as La Verne attempted to close the gap. Enoch finished with 16 points with 11 scored in the first half. Seth Shaw finished with five rebounds, three offensively and two defensively. Shaw landed seven points.

Pomona-Pitzer was led by Micah Elan's 41 points, James Kelbert's four steals, and Brendan Mora's eight rebounds.

The Sagehens advance to a 14-4 overall and 7-2 in SCIAC. La Verne drops to a 2-15 overall and 2-7 in SCIAC.

Next Game

The Leos travel to Bruan Gymnasium to face the Caltech Beavers this Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m.
