Leopards compete against Westminster

LA JOLLA, CA — The University of La Verne swimming and diving teams ended winter break with an exhibition meet against Westminister College Saturday in La Jolla.

Instead of a standard dual meet format, the Leopards and Titans participated in rapid-fire racing where the two teams broke up into eight groups and competed in repetitive sprint racing of varying distances and strokes.

The nonscoring format allowed the swimmers to compete in different series of challenges. Divers from both squads along with divers from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps competed at Axelrod Pool in Claremont.

"This meet allowed us to compete at a time of year when training is the prime focus of every team, and that will help both teams perform well in the future," said head coach Pat Skehan. "I was very proud of our team's exceptional effort. They had no idea what was coming and adapted well to every challenge."

Next Meet

The Leopards will get back to SCIAC action when they host Occidental College this Saturday at Las Flores Park. Diving is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. with swimming to follow at 11 a.m.
