Swim and Dive closes out SCIAC dual meets

PASADENA, CA — The University of La Verne swimming and diving teams closed out the SCIAC dual meet season at Caltech on Saturday.

Brandon Pon continued to lead the Leopards, scoring back-to-back wins in the 1,000 freestyle (10:12.73) and 200 freestyle (1:47.95) freestyle. The senior capped off the day with a solid win in the 500 free clocking in at 4:50.31.

Freshman Alondra Comacho stepped up taking first in both the 50 backstroke (29.55) and 100 backstroke (1:03.93).

"We took an unorthodox approach in today'meet and asked our swimmers to take on some different challenges to help them prepare for the upcoming SCIAC Championships," said head coach Pat Skehan. "Putting our swimmers in shorter races help us focus on racing skills. Getting nine season-best times this close to SCIAC bodes well for our program."

Senior Kayla Yip came back from two very close second place finishes in 50 freestyle 50 butterfly to win the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:05.68. In the 500 freestyle, Roxanna Ramirez-Recinos  battled tight race that came down to the final 50 where she broke away and took the win. The junior won with a time of 5:35.05
