LA VERNE, CA — Destinee Garcia has been tabbed SCIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Garcia had a big week in a pair of wins for the Leopards. Her biggest impact came in a 73-55 win over Caltech where the senior nearly finished with a triple-double. Garcia scored 12 points, grabbed a team and career-high 11 rebounds including six on the defensive end, dished out a career-high eight assists, added five steals, and blocked three shots.
In a 73-55 win over Lewis & Clark, she totaled seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Garcia ranks third in the SCIAC with 2.9 steals per game and 32 total steals.
Garcia is the third Leopard to earn SCIAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors. Jasmine Xiong and Jazzlyn Johnson both picked up offensive honors earlier this season.

The Leopards continue SCIAC action with a big game at Pomona-Pitzer this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. The Sagehens and Leopards are tied for second place in the SCIAC.
