Leopards Fall on the Road to Beavers

PASADENA, CA —  The La Verne's women's soccer fired off 18 totals shots with 12 on goal but could not find the back of the net in a frustrating 1-0 loss to Caltech on Saturday afternoon.

The Leopards were led by Valerie Vela who had four shots including three on goal. Jessica Barksdale, Danielle Bennett, and Brianna Wong each had two shots on goal in the match for La Verne. Rebecca Fischer, Alyssa Moran, Shelbie Mueller, and Sarah Ramirez each were able to fire one shot on goal but to no avail. McKenzie Maggiore finished with a pair of saves.

The game seemed destined to stay scoreless until Caltech went on the attack late in the match. La Verne committed a foul and Caltech took full advantage of the mistake off of the restart. With just 12 seconds left in regulation, Sophia Elam whipped the ball into the box from 30 yards out, and midfielder Schuyler Dick buried in the back of the net.

The Leopards were unable to score against the dual goalkeepers from Caltech, Megan Robertson, and Eve Fine, who each played a half and picked up five and seven saves respectively.
