The University of La Verne women's soccer team hosted a spring tournament at Ortmayer Stadium. With four teams competing, the Leopards were able to get in reps and also continue to prepare for their upcoming season.
Head coach Lauryn Pehanich wanted to use this opportunity to evaluate the progression of her squad and to also continue to improve in all areas. She talked about the spring season, what it means to her program and how this time is essential to the preparation for the fall. "Our spring season is limited in time, so we are very focused on what we want to get out of it. Over the past 4 weeks, we had been focusing on some keywords and putting them into practice on the field- those words were: Compete, Control, Conflict, and Cohesive. The coaching staff was excited about the performance as well as the potential that is seen in this group. Keeping both opponents scoreless and scoring some goals ourselves was an added bonus to the weekend. Coach Pehanich, while always happy to see her team win, was also happy about the opportunity the tournament provided to see potential recruits and show them the great things that the University of La Verne can provide for its student-athletes. "Winning is always a highlight. But more importantly than that the coaching staff was able to assess our group and find some really good partnerships on the field that we are excited to build on come fall season. It was an awesome event. We were able to bring some very good Junior College athletes on campus and had the opportunity to recruit and show them what the University of La Verne has to offer. In addition, we were able to compete with our group and round out our hard work over the last 4 weeks with some great competition. We are excited to host again next year." The Leopards will conclude spring workouts this week.
