LA VERNE, CA — Chloe Robinson put the Leopards on the board early, Alison Flores added an insurance goal three minutes later, and the University of La Verne women's soccer team took down the Caltech Beavers 2-0 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
It took the Leopards just two shots to take the 2-0 lead. The first came in the 11th minute when Rebecca Fischer capitalized on a counter-attack and found an open Robinson who sent the shot to the back of the net for her first career goal.
Just under three minutes later, it was Robinson's turn to create an opportunity as she connected with Flores to double the Leopards' lead. The two goals would be all La Verne needed to record the win.
The La Verne defense made it difficult for the Beavers to get much going on the attack, holding Caltech to just two shots in the first half and four in the second. The Leopard keeper snagged all three shots on goal with Abigail Macedo grabbing one save and Evelyn Saldivar finishing with two.
The Leopards kept the pressure on Caltech from the start. La Verne was called offsides four times early but the aggressive attack proved to be the perfect tactic. La Verne continued the relentless pressure in the opening half, rallying off 10 total shots.
The win puts the Leopards' record at 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the SCIAC. Caltech drops to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
La Verne returns home Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 4 p.m.
