LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker in overtime against Occidental College.

The Leopards and Tigers played a gritty defensive matchup and combined were only able to fire 19 shots and only 10 shots on goal. In the first half of the match, the Tigers had two opportunities to score but McKenzie Maggiore of La Verne saved both chances and kept the game scoreless.

Unable to get on a shot on goal in the first half, the Leopards fired three in the second half of the match. Alyssa Moran of the Leopards had her bid at a goal spoiled twice at the 50th minute and at the 69th minute mark. Once again, Leopards goalkeeper Maggiore stole the show as she compiled three additional saves in the second half to keep the game tied at 0-0.

The Leopards had one last chance to find the back of the net in the waning minute of the match. La Verne defender, Julia Gomez, had her shot saved in the 89th minute of the match.

In overtime, Maggiore came up with a big save in the 92nd minute to keep the game alive. Two minutes later La Verne was called for a foul inside the penalty box, giving the Tigers Ella Endo a chance to win the match with a penalty shot and she delivered.

Season Impact

The Tigers won 1-0 over the Leopards. Occidental improved to 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in SCIAC. La Verne dropped to 1-8 on the year and 1-4 in SCIAC.
