Volleyball Breaks Into AVCA Top 25 Poll

For the first time in three seasons, the University of La Verne is represented in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25 Poll.

With a trio of three-game sweeps over conference opponents last week, the Leopards move into the No. 25 spot in the latest AVCA Poll released Tuesday.  The ranking marks the first time La Verne has appeared in the national poll since September 22, 2009.

The Leopards are among three teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference currently ranked in the poll along with No. 8 Cal Lutheran and No. 22 Chapman.  The Leos concluded the regular season with a four-match win streak en route to a 21-4 overall record along with a 13-3 mark in the SCIAC.

All four of the Leopards' losses this season have come to teams currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25.

La Verne earned the No. 3 seed for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and will draw No. 2 seed Chapman in semifinal action Thursday at 5 pm in Thousand Oaks.
