25-Hit Performance Boosts La Verne over Caltech

La Verne piled on 25 hits and 18 runs to top CalTech 18-1 in Friday's opener of a weekened set between the Leopards and Beavers.  The Leopards would quickly bring three runners across in the first three innings of the game and explode in the fourth inning, bringing eleven across the plate on ten hits.

Freshman Nolan Henley was a homerun short of a cycle, pacing the Leos with a 4 for 4 performance at the plate.  Eight Leopards had multi-hit performances, notably, Dylan Leong and Josh Surdo who were both 3 for 4, and shortstop George Hanna who was a perfect 3 for 3.

Kevin Knight provided another solid performance on the mound giving up just three hits and no runs in 5.0 innings of work.  With the victory Knight improves to 3-1 on the year.  Alec Garcia and Gavin Lewis would each provided an inning of relief to close out the game.

Both teams resume play tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 11am in Claremont.
