La Verne Dealt Loss By No. 2 Linfield

The University of La Verne baseball team suffered a 13-1 defeat at the hands of No. 2 ranked Linfield College Sunday afternoon in Walnut.  The contest was the second between the two squads since the 2013 season opener that resulted in a 6-0 victory for the Leopards.

Linfield avenged the season-opening loss by tallying 20 hits and forcing La Verne to call on the bullpen six times.  The Wildcats were persistent scoring in six of the nine innings while also  capitalizing on four Leopard errors.

La Verne's only run came in the bottom of the eighth after Nolan Henley, Josh Surdo, and Mason Stoltenberg all singled to load the bases allowing Surdo to cross the plate when Tim Ralston was hit by the pitch.

Surdo, Henley, Hanna, Michael Stewart and Mason Stoltenberg all had one hit for the Leopards.

La Verne returns to conference action Friday against Cal Lutheran, which currently sits atop SCIAC standings. Start time is 7:00 pm in Walnut.
