An outstanding season by La Verne pitcher Kevin Knight has been rewarded with a 2013 All-West Region Second Team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
A 6-6 junior from Orange, Knight emerged as one of the top hurlers in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference during the 2013 campaign, posting a 6-3 overall record with a 1.94 earned run average and three complete games in his 83.1 innings of work en route to earning First Team All-SCIAC accolades.
In league competition, Knight started nine games, going 5-3 with a 2.18 ERA and two complete games. He was among the conference leaders in earned run average (third), complete games (third), strikeouts (fifth), complete games (fifth) and wins (sixth).
Among Knight's season highlights included a complete-game, five-hit, nine strikeout effort in a 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Kean University on March 8. The nine Ks against Kean tied his season high, matching his nine-strikeout effort against Occidental on April 12. He also produced a complete-game, five-hit performance in a 10-1 triumph over Whittier on April 6.
La Verne finished the 2013 season with a 22-16 overall record including a 16-12 mark in conference play.
