CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA — Pitiluk Phanomchai took first overall and the No. 6/11 University of La Verne men's golf team won the Poet Challenge Friday afternoon at Pacific Palms Golf Course.
Phanomchai, last year's SCIAC and West Region Freshman of the Year, got off to a hot start in the Leopards' spring season. The Thailand native carded a four-over 75 to finished two strokes ahead of Pomona-Pitzer's Conor Rooney.
The Leopards ranked No. 6 by Golfstat and No. 11 by the GCAA, finished with a team score of 312, edging out No. 20/22 Chapman by just one stroke.
Returning All-American Conner Davis had a strong outing for the Leopards tying for fourth place with a score of 78. Jason Brown finished one stroke behind Davis, shooting a 79 to take ninth place.
2018 SCIAC Athlete of the Year Hisham Hussein carded an 80 to finish in a three-way tie for 11th place, rounding out the score for the Leopards.
Henrik Skogseth shot an 81, Connor Dunlop finished with a score of 82, and Brandon Blum carded an 89.
Griffin Tso led Chapman with a score of 78.

The Leopards are back in action on Monday when they travel to Beaumont to take place in the CSUSB Coyote Classic.
