LA VERNE, CA — Junior Pitiluk Phanomchai, seniors Hisham Hussein and Conner Davis each earned All-SCIAC honors and Head Coach Eric Riehle along with assistant coaches Jim Nicholson and Joe Skovron earned SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year recognition the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The University of La Verne men's golf team is ranked 11th in NCAA Division III by both Golfstat and the GCAA.
Hussein and Phanomchai earned First Team All-SCIAC honors for the second straight season. Phanomchai continued his tear through the conference in his sophomore campaign. Named the Ken Sherman SCIAC Newcomer of the Year a season ago, the Thailand native continued his dominance in the conference by finishing second individually at the SCIAC Championships this year. He also tied for first at SCIAC No. 1 and won the Poet Challenge. Phanomchai earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week recognition twice this season.
Hussein followed up his Lee Fulmer SCIAC Athlete of the Year performance last year with another standout season. Hussein tied for fourth at the SCIAC Championships, took third at SCIAC No. 2, and tied for third at the West Cup.
Davis earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors in back-to-back season. The 2018 All-American capped off the regular season with a 12th place finish at the SCIAC Championships and also took fifth at the Warrior Invitational, tied for sixth at SCIAC No. 1, and finished in the top-20 at the West Cup.
Riehle, Nicholson, and Skovron earn SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors after leading the Leopards to their 10th SCIAC Championship. The title was the Leopards' first since 2013 and the fifth under Riehle.
La Verne next heads to the NCAA Division III National Championships in Nicholasville, KY. The tournament begins on May 14 and runs through May 17.
