Leopards Split Double Header

La Verne, California - The University of La Verne softball team had a home doubleheader with the visiting University of Rochester. The opening game proved to be a defensive battle as both teams only gave up a combined fifteen hits. The Leopards got on the board first when Katheryn Navarro doubled to left-center leading to a score by Taylor Gray. Janisa Rojo would score in the second inning to tie the game at two runs apiece. The Leopards scored their third and final run in the sixth inning when Hailee Reinert grounded a hit, leading to a score by Cailin Bliss. The Leopards would fall in a close game by a final score of 4-3. Rachel Rubio led the Leopards with five strikeouts on the mound.

Game 2

The second game of the doubleheader would see the Leopards fall behind early, giving up three runs and trailing the Yellowjackets by a score of 3-0 at the bottom of the seventh inning. The Leopards then began a rally that would change the scope of the game. Alyssa Campbell singled to center field which led to a Cailin Bliss score. Clarissa Salazar and Hailee Reinert were both walked, leading to scores by Isabela Ramirez and Marissa Acosta. As play continued, both teams would find themselves battling to a ninth-inning when Marissa Acosta sealed the win with a home run to centerfield, completing the Leopards comeback and giving them a come from behind 4-3 win.


The Leopards return to action today at home against Carnegie Mellon in doubleheader action. The first game starts at 4:00 pm and the second game starts at 6:00 pm.
