Leopards Split With Claremont

La Verne, California - The University of La Verne split a doubleheader on Saturday night against Claremont Mudd-Scripps, winning 5-4 and dropping game two 5-3.

Game One

The Leopards scored in the first inning when Nat Aguilera singled in Haylee Hsieh to take a 1-0 lead. The Athenas tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning and the score remained deadlocked at one a piece until the 5th inning. Taylor Gray singled home two runs to give La Verne a 3-1 lead and Aguilera followed it up with a two-run home run to take a commanding 5-1 lead. CMS hit a three run homer to bring them within one run but La Verne held that one-run lead to win the game 5-4.

Game Two

The Leopards took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning with a home run from Kat Navarro. The Athenas took a 3-1 lead with a three-run home run in the 5th inning. La Verne countered with a solo home run in the 5th inning off the bat of Ashley Rodriguez to bring the Leopards within one run at 3-2. Unfortunately for La Verne, the Athenas would tack on two more insurance runs in the 7th inning off a two-run homer. The Leopards were able to scratch across one more run in the bottom of the 7th but ultimately came up short as they fell to the Athenas 5-3.

Standouts

Nat Aguilera went 2-5 in the two games including hitting a big two-run home run and driving in a combined 3 runs. Taylor Gray scored a run and drove in a run as she played a huge part in game one's victory. Kat Navarro and Ashley Rodriguez each hit a solo home run in game two. Navarro also picked up her 4th win of the season as she pitched a complete game and struck out four batters.
