Leopards Split Double Header On The Road

Newberg, Oregon - The University of LA Verne softball team traveled to Oregon to battle George Fox University in a non-conference matchup. The Leopards would begin the first game of the doubleheader at a standstill, as neither team scored through the first two innings. The third inning would see the LEopards two runs, giving them a 2-0 lead after three innings of play. The Leopards would again score in the top of the fourth inning when Jillian Gellatly crossed home plate. A low-scoring game, Haylee Hsieh would score for the Leopards in the eighth inning, as they would win the first game by a score of 4-3. Rachel Rubio had eight strikeouts for the Leopards in the victory.

The second game of the doubleheader would see the Leopards playing uphill the entire contest. Going scoreless in the first inning, La Verne trailed GFU 1-0. The Leopards would give up three runs in the second inning of play, falling behind 4-1. The LEopards scored twice in the third inning while keeping GFU scoreless, narrowing the gap to 4-3. La Verne would score twice over the next four innings but it would not be enough to overcome GFU's lead as they would fall by a final score of 6-5. Natalia Aguilera had three hits and three RBIs in the second game and Marissa Acosta had two hits and one RBI in the contest.

The Leopards will take on Linfield University tomorrow in doubleheader action at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
