Leopards Sweep Nationally Ranked #8 Linfield University On The Road

McMinnville, Oregon - The University of La Verne traveled to McMinnville, Oregon to take on nationally-ranked Linfield University. The Leopards played the eighth-ranked Wildcats in doubleheader action at Del Smith Stadium.

The Leopards and Wildcats battled evenly throughout the first five innings of play in the first game, as both teams were scoreless through the fifth inning. Clarissa Salazar scored the only run of the game for the Leopards as they would go on to win the first game by a final score of 1-0. Katheryn Navarro had six strikeouts for the Leopards in the victory.

The second game in the doubleheader had more productivity on the scoreboard for both teams. The first inning of play ended with both teams deadlocked at three apiece. Natalia Aguilera and Janissa Rojo singled in the inning which ended with Taylor Gray and Aguilera scoring runs for the Leopards. Ashley Rodriguez would be walked in the fifth inning and Jillian Gellatly would score a run, as the Leopards narrowed their deficit to 4-5. A Katheryn Navarro single in the sixth inning led to scores by Haylee Hsieh and Clarissa Salazar, giving the Leopards the lead and eventually, the victory over eighth-ranked Linfield University 6-5. Rachel Rubio had five strikeouts in the game for the Leopards. Head coach Dennis Blas was extremely pleased with his team's performance. " It was a great two wins today against number eight ranked Linfield team. This is the reason we scheduled these games we wanted to see where we were at and they are a top ten team. Any time you can go 3-1 against good teams we will take it. Two great team wins today! It's a Great Day to be a LEO!"

The Leopards return to action on April 1st at Claremont-M-S. The game starts at 3:00 pm.
