After two days of competition at the OB Finis Invitational, the University of La Verne swimming & diving team has come out on top in nine events.
The squad was led by Marc Okimura and Maddie Lovrensky who each recorded NCAA B cut times. Okimura posted a 57.19 in the 100 breaststroke and Lovrensky earned a 58.07 in her first place finish in the 100 backstroke event.
Friday's competition was highlighted by a first place finish in the 200 Medley as Coleman Goode, Marc Okimura, Cody Yeo, and Devon Photias combined efforts in a 1:39.82 finish. The combination of Jarrett Peterson, Okimura, Felipe Villa, and Yeo would secure a 2nd place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. Cody Yeo and Coleman Goode would also find individual success as Yeo would swim to a third place finish in the 1650 with a time of 17:16.49. Goode would also secure a third place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.70.
The women's swim squard would find success in the 200 medley relay as Maddie Lovrensky, Jaycee Halford, Sammi Shiomoto, and Crystal Antuna put together a second place finish with a time of 1:56.64. Lovrensky, Antuna, Shiomoto, and Nicole Carlton secured a 3rd place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:18.77. Carlton also captured a 4th place finish in the 1650 race with 18:55.81 finish.
Day 2 of the invite would see the Leopard swim team explode with eight first-place efforts, highlighted by Okimura and Lovrensky's B cut times in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, respectively.
The team of Lovrensky, Shiomoto, Carlton, and Halford would combine for a first place finish in the 200 relay with a swift 1:43.38 clocking. Additionally, this combo of Leopard women's swimmers would find themselves two seconds shy of a varsity record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:10.26. Sammie Shiomoto worked her way to the top in the 100 fly with a 59.98 as did Devon Photias in the 50 freestyle when he captured first place with a time of 21.88. The potent combination of Goode, Okimura, Yeo, and Photias proved successful in the 400 medley relay as the combo captured first with 3:36.86 finish.
The Leopards jump back into the pool Sunday where they look to build on momentum from the first two days.
