Junior Marc Okimura and Sophomore Madeline Lovrensky continued to shine on day three of the 2013 SCIAC Championships. Competition conlcuded today with the 1650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay events for both the men and the women.
In the team competition, the La Verne men finished in seventh place in the overall standings (215) while the women's team had an eighth-place overall finish (156). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps claimed both the men's and women's team titles for the second year in a row.
Lovrensky repeated her SCIAC double from one year ago, claiming the 200-yard backstroke crown for the second year in a row with a winning time of 2:04.24. With the repeat, Lovrensky topped her finish in last year's Championships by nearly two full seconds.
Okimura continued to shine in the breaststroke, placing second overall with another lifetime best of 2:03.52 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Okimura was edged once again by Occidental's Steven van Deventer, who posted a time of 2:02.09 to secure the top finish. Okimura's finish earned him another NCAA 'B' Cut.
Other Leopard scores included Sammy Shiomoto's 12th place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.10) and the 7th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay posted by Alex Betrol Navarro, Homero Aguilar, Michael Rashed, and Felipe Avendano Villa (3:16.38).
