De Leon Paces Leopards on Day Two of Winter Invite

LOS ANGELES — Lorenzo De Leon had a strong day and the University of La Verne swim and dive teams showed continued improvement on day two of the Collegiate Winter Invite.

De Leon highlighted the day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The junior touched at 53.07 finishing behind only NCAA DII swimmer Braeden Glor of Concordia.

De Leon also took eighth in the 400-yard individual medley clocking in at 4:21.49. Trevor Ichiki took 11th in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.03.

Jessica Argelander had another outstanding day for the Leopards. The senior took fifth in the 100-yard butterfly finishing at 59.69.

Brian McAteer posted a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching eighth at 1:01.21.

Alondra Camacho posted an 11th place finish in the women's 400 IM at 4:54.71. Carli Willis took 14th in the event with a time of 5:06.68 and Samantha Szok touched in 15th place at 5:22.12. Camacho also added a 10th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.37).

Willis added a 13th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.40) with Roxanna Ramirez following in 14th place (2:05.61). Ramirez also took 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.19) and Isabelle Cheng followed in 12th (1:17.19).

In the relays, men's squad of  De Leon, Brian McAteer, Cristian Gonzales, and Ichiki turned in a sixth-place performance in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.01.

In the women's 200 medley relay, the team of Camacho, Roxanne Ramirez, Willis, and Argelander took seventh at 1:56.34.

In the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, the group of Ichiki, McAteer, Gonzales, and De Leon ended in sixth place (7:22.90). On the women's side, Argelander, Ramirez, Camacho, and Willis finished in sixth place with a time of 8:23.39.

After two days of competition, the Leopards remain in third place with 1,280 points.
