LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo team picked up a 16-6 win over Occidental on Senior Day to earn the No. 4 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
Season Impact
The Leopards end the regular season with an 11-13 overall record and a 9-5 mark in SCIAC play. Occidental ends their season 7-17 overall and 1-13 in conference play.
SCIAC Tournament
This will be the Leopards first appearance in the conference postseason tournament since the SCIAC moved to a four-team format last season. La Verne will travel to No. 1 seed Pomona-Pitzer next Friday at 7 p.m.
No. 2 Cal Lutheran will host No. 3 seed Whittier the same day at 4 p.m.
Stat Leaders
Jassmine Kezman led the Leopards with five goals, two assists, and two steals. Guarina Garcia led the Leopards with five goals and three steals.
Freshman Kelly Riedel had a big game, scoring a career-high four goals. The West Sacramento native also added a steal.
Victoria Mezack finished with two goals, three assists, and three steals. Samantha Murillo picked up the win in the cage with two saves. Jordan Ehara finished with a steal.
Senior Day
The Leopards celebrated seniors Victoria Mezack, Samantha Murillo, Yuri Ujifusa, and Guarina Garcia in a brief pregame ceremony.
