LA VERNE, CA- The University of La Verne hosted its first homecoming game at Ortmayer Stadium this morning at 11:00 AM. The women's soccer team faced the University of Redlands Bulldogs in a tight matchup.
Twenty minutes into the first half, the Leos held possession in Bulldog territory. Assisted by junior Brianna Wong, junior Alison Flores shot high into the net, too tall for the Bulldogs goalie to defend, for the first point of the match.
Leopard goalkeeper, Abigail Macedo, held active and aggressive with five saves for the first half. With just over a minute left in the first, Redlands scored, tying the game to start the second half, 1-1. Macedo increased her energy for the second half, protecting the net with nine saves. This sophomore goalie totaled 14 saves on goal today.
The Leopards fought defensively with Redlands holding possession of the ball majority of the second half. With opportunities for the Leopards to score, La Verne's defense would counter many setbacks to exhaust them in their own territory. With no scoring from both teams, the final score ended in a tie, 1-1.
Women's soccer heads to Occidental next Saturday to compete for their first win against the Tigers this season.
