SEATTLE, Wash. – Lenore Moreno keeps blazing new trails.
The senior, who became the first La Verne woman in history to earn All-American honors in cross country in 2012, set new personal and school records in the 5000-meter run at the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington on Friday.
Moreno's mark of 16:45.51 puts her atop the list of all NCAA Division III runners this season and it is near certainty that she will be the second female La Verne athlete and third Leopard ever to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships on March 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb. Paul Turner was named an All-American in the triple jump at last year's indoor championships for the men and Chelsea Sherier earned All-American honors in pole vault in 2005.
Moreno's time would have won the national championship last season and was good enough to place 13th overall in a field of 58 that was mostly comprised of Division I competitors.
