Moreno Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – After a historic performance in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational, La Verne runner Lenore Moreno was named the NCAA Division III Women's National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

This is the second week in a row a La Verne athlete has been named a National Athlete of the Week. Chancise Watkins won the honors for the men last week after posting a pair of top Division III times in the 200 and 400 meters.

Moreno finished runner-up in the second section of the women's 10,000 with a time of 33 minutes, 49.04 seconds. She jumped up to No. 3 in Division III history with the fastest time since 2003 and currently leads the nation by nearly two full minutes. It was also her first time competing in the event this season.

As the lone Division III entrant in the race, Moreno finished 19th overall in a field of 75 premier upper-division and professional runners.

Coming off a national championship performance in the 5000m at the 2014 NCAA Indoor National Championships, Moreno will look to carry the momentum into the outdoor championships. She placed eighth in the 10,000 at last year's outdoor meet, earning All-America status.

Moreno and the Leopards return to action this weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
