PASADENA, Calif. – University of La Verne runner Lenore Moreno was named the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Moreno was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Coming off an indoor national championship, Moreno ran a school- and SCIAC record time of 33:49.04 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. Moreno's mark is the third fastest time in Division III history (fastest since 2003) and leads the nation this season by nearly two full minutes. It was her first time competing in the event this season.
As the lone Division III entrant in the race, Moreno placed 19th overall in a field of 75 Division I and professional runners.
This is the second week in a row La Verne has had an athlete earn the USTFCCCA and the SCIAC honors in the same week. Chancise Watkins was recognized last week after posting a pair of Division III-leading times in the 200m and 400m at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2.
