PALO ALTO, Calif. – Fresh off a national championship, University of La Verne runner Lenore Moreno is set to take on another challenge.
On Friday evening, Moreno will compete in the 10,000 meter run at the 39th annual Stanford Track and Field Invitational. The senior is the lone Division III entrant in the event and will race against over one hundred elite Division I and professional runners.
Moreno will look to use this race as a springboard to bigger things at the end of the season. In February, Moreno posted the fastest indoor 5,000 meter time in Division III at the Husky Classic—placing 13th in a field of 58 upper-division runners—and eventually went on to win the national championship in record-breaking fashion in March.
Although she hasn't officially competed in the 10,000 this outdoor season, Moreno is considered one of the strong favorites to win the event at this year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Moreno owns the school- and SCIAC record (35 minutes, 00.43 seconds) in the 10,000 and earned All-America status in the event at last year's national championships after finishing eighth.
