SAN DIEGO, Calif. – It was a long weekend for the University of La Verne track and field teams as they competed in a pair of meets in the San Diego area over the weekend. Most of the team competed in the Arnie Robinson Invitational hosted by the San Diego Mesa College, where fickle weather and delayed start time tested the Leopards' focus. A pair of throwers competed in the Cal/Nevada Collegiate Championships hosted by UC San Diego.

Deanna Doss and Christiana Coughlin represented La Verne at Cal/Nevada on Friday. Doss competed in the hammer throw and registered a toss of 156 feet, 11 inches (47.82 meters). Christina Coughlin recorded a 118-06 (36.12m) in the javelin throw on Friday and took the short trip to Mesa on Saturday and won the event at Arnie Robinson Invitational with a throw of 115-10 (35.30m).

Nick Gonsalves started the Leos off at Arnie Robinson by taking fourth in his heat and ninth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.93 seconds. Teammate Robert Oshodin took second in his heat and placed twentieth overall running a time of 11.21.

In the 400 meter hurdles Andrew Milligan showed improvement. Milligan placed third in his heat and twenty-fourth overall. He ran a time of 1:04.24.

The men's pole vault squad found itself in a challenging situation. With no poles of their own, the athletes had to share poles with Mt. San Antonio College. On top of not having any poles of their own, the event started late and finished even later. Jared Manke finished his last attempt at 9:50 p.m. and finished fifth overall, vaulting a height of 14-5.25 (4.40m). Freshman Eric Zuniga finished 21st overall with a clearance of 10-11.75 (3.35m).

Although the jump events started two hours later than scheduled, the Leopards worked with what was given to them and the results were pleasing.

In the long jump, James Francis leaped a 21-10.75 (6.67m), placing him 10th overall. Teammate Art Hinojosa finished 23rd overall with a jump of 20-05.25 (6.23m). Hinojosa also showed a pretty good performance in the triple jump, placing 14th overall with a jump of 41-5.75 (12.64m).

Chris Gura, Andrew Carrasco and Matt Reinbolz all finished in the top ten of men's shot put. Gura finished sixth throwing the shot 41-04.5 (12.61m). Carrasco finished right behind him taking seventh with a toss of 39-05.75 (12.03m). Reinbolz came in ninth, throwing 38-07 (11.76m).

Jacob Pavlovics had a solid performance in the javelin. Pavlovics finished sixth overall with a throw of 142-06 (43.44m).

To start the women out the 4x100 team took second in their heat with a time of 48.56 seconds.

In the 100 meter dash Nicole Crutchfield took third in her heat and placed 13th overall with a time of 12.75 seconds. Ebony Williams was not far behind, taking fifth in her heat while placing 15th overall with a time of 12.85 seconds.

Jaclyn Castleberry did well in the shot put placing seventh overall with a throw of 32-03 (9.83m). Castleberry also threw the discus and placed fifth overall with a toss of 119-10 (36.53m).

It was a great improvement day for Angelina Arreola in the javelin. Arreola threw 110-08 (33.73m), good for third overall.

To finish the night off in the 4x400 race; Alysse Thummel, Alexa Smith, Jasmin Gonzalez and Kimmy Kabluyen teamed up to finish fourth overall with a time 4:00.71.
