Leopards Explode For 5-2 Victory On The Road Over Linfield

McMinville, Oregon - The University of La Verne men's soccer team took the field today for its second game in less than twenty-four hours looking to bounce back from a tough loss to George Fox on the road. The Leopards continued their Oregon Trail as they visited Linfield University for an early morning contest. La Verne started the game with great energy as they established a presence that would be visible the entire game. The Leopards found the net first in the contest as Roberto Laguna scored the first goal of the game for La Verne twelve minutes into first-half action. Asher Smith scored La Verne's second goal of the first half as the Leopards would only allow one Linfield score, leading at halftime by a score of 2-1.

The second half would begin in the same fashion as the first half with Owen Osagiede scoring the first point of the half for the Leopards. Near the midpoint of the second half, Joel Trejo scored another goal for the Leopards as they increased their lead by a score of 4-2. Asher Smith scored his second goal of the game as the final minutes wound down, securing a convincing victory for the Leopards over Linfield by a final score of 5-2.

Head coach Trevor Persson was pleased with his team's performance as they prepare for a contest against Whittier this week. "We have been patiently waiting for our offense to click and score some goals. Putting up seven goals this weekend was huge. It shows our team is grasping our offensive patterns and movements on and off the ball. This weekend, and all previous preseason games, will best prepare our team for SCIAC competition. We are excited for this coming Wednesday at Whittier."

The Leopards will take on Whittier on the road Wednesday, September 14th.
