Leopards Pounce Tigers On The Road

Los Angeles, CA - The University of La Verne men's soccer team battled the Occidental Tigers on the road in Los Angeles, California. The Leopards were looking to avenge a home loss earlier this month to the Tigers.

The Tigers, ranked second in the conference standings had defeated La Verne 3-0 at Ortmayer Stadium earlier this month. The Leopards used that earlier conference loss as motivation to fuel their rematch with the Tigers on the road. The Tigers would strike first blood, as they scored the first field goal of the game 8:34 into the contest. Amidst the loud horns and raucous crowd, the Leopards evened the game up at 1-1 when Occidental scored a goal in their own goal. This goal spearheaded momentum for the Leopards, as they never looked back.

At the 63:32 mark of the second half, Leopard Tyler Thomas would score a goal on an assist from Damian Lira-Martinez to give the Leopards a 2-1 lead. The Leopards defense would secure the nets as Occidental would not score another goal, as goalie Matthew Logan Reese would finish the game with 8 saves. La Verne knocked off #2 ranked Occidental by a final score of 2-1.

La Verne is back in action on October 29th at home for Senior Night against Caltech. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
