Leopards Tied The Night Off Against Cal Lutheran

By Cyanna Rosa

LA VERNE, CA- The University of La Verne men's soccer team hosted the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Saturday night for their seventh conference game of the season. Both teams scored in the second half, ending the game in a tie, 1-1.

Goalkeeper Logan Reese had a great start to the game with 6 swift saves in just the first half. The Kingsmen bobbed the ball in the 6-yard box, challenging Reese and the La Verne defense, but ultimately the sophomore goalie did not lose sight of the ball.

Junior midfielder, Damian Lira-Martinez, was the only Leopard to shoot on goal for the first half, but the Leopards continued to push plays towards Kingsmen territory. The Leopards went into halftime, 0-0.

The second half was card heavy, serving five yellow cards throughout the half and a red card ejecting Cal Lutheran goalkeeper due to a shove inside the 18-yard box. Midfielder, Owen Osagiede, ended the play with a penalty kick that reached the back of the net, leading the Leopards 1-0.

Three minutes later, Cal Lutheran was awarded a penalty kick and scored to tie the game, 1-1. For the remaining 10 minutes, the Leopards maximized their offensive time. Leopards, Nathan Garcia and Angel Loza, attempted one shot each with no further action from Cal Lutheran's offense.

With Reese totaling 9 saves for the night, the Leopards tied the Kingsmen 1-1.

The men's soccer team continues their weekend matchups facing UC Santa Cruz at Ortmayer Stadium tomorrow, October 9th at 7 pm.
