Leopards Finish IE Classic With Big Win Over Ottawa

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne men's water polo team capped the 2022 Inland Empire Classic with a 14-13 victory over Ottawa University. Earlier in the day, the Leopards competed against Long Beach State University in the opening tournament game of the day. The Dirtbags of Long Beach State University, from The Big West Conference, opened the second day of the tournament with a 27-9 victory over the Leopards. Jaden Javier and James Cano each led the Leopards with three goals apiece in the game. Alam Chang contributed four assists for the Leopards.


La Verne's second game of the day would see them face off against Ottawa University out of the Golden State Athletic Conference. The Leopards opened the game by scoring four goals in the opening quarter. Peter Trinh would score one goal for La Verne in the second quarter of play, as the game went into intermission tied at five apiece. The second half of play would see the Leopards never trail, as they controlled the game and scored nine goals in the half, en route to a 14-13 victory over Ottawa.


Peter Trinh and Alam Chang led La Verne with four goals each in the victory. Chang also contributed three steals and three assists to the Leopards' attack. Goalie Joe Lamson had eight saves on the day.


La Verne returns to action next weekend in the Air Force Rare Air Challenge in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
