Overtime Thriller At Las Flores Park

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne men's water polo team hosted Biola University for a non-conference matchup Saturday morning. A highly spirited contest, this match-up came down to the wire to decide the winner.

As the two teams battled it out, both the Leopards and the Eagles looked to establish their presence early. After the first period of play, the Leopards would hold a 4-2 lead over the Eagles. Going goal for goal with each other in the second period, Biola scored five goals to La Verne's four goals to make the game 8-7 at halftime, in favor of La Verne.


A Biola run in the third quarter led to them scoring four goals to take an 11-10 lead over La Verne. The Leopards trailed as time in the match was winding down when Peter Trinh scored a goal with one second left on the clock to tie up the game at 13-13 and send it to overtime.


The Leopards struck first in overtime when Gage Unsoeld scored a goal to give La Verne a 14-13 lead over Biola. Biola would score in the sixth period to even the contest 14-14. The seventh period of play came down to one final shot, which Biola converted, giving them a 15-14 victory over the Leopards. Six different Leopards scored in the match ( Peter Trinh (5), Alam Chang (3), Gage Unsoeld (2), James Cano (2), Tristan Tippett, Cody Lehotsky (1) ) and Allen Soto-Lopez had six saves in the loss.


The Leopards return to action when they take on Claremont-M-S at home on November 2nd at 4:00 PM.
